Easily make a delicious chocolate-cherry cake with Betty Crocker™ Devil's Food Cake Mix.
Ingredients:
  • 1 box Betty Crocker™ Super Moist™ Devil's Food Cake Mix
  • Water, vegetable oil and eggs called for on cake mix box
  • 1 pint (2 cups) heavy whipping cream
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 to 3 tablespoons brandy, if desired
  • 1 can (21 oz) cherry pie filling
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
  • 2 tablespoons sliced almonds
Instructions:
  • Preheat oven to 350°F (325°F for dark or nonstick pans), and generously coat two 8- or 9-inch round cake pans with cooking spray.
  • Prepare and bake the cake according to the instructions on the box for 8- or 9-inch round pans. Allow the cakes to cool for 10 minutes, then remove them from the pans onto a cooling rack. Let them cool completely, which should take about 1 hour.
  • Whip the cream in a chilled medium bowl with an electric mixer until slightly thickened. Gradually add powdered sugar until stiff peaks form, then gently fold in the brandy. In a separate small bowl, combine the pie filling with almond extract.
  • Place 1 cake layer with the rounded side down on a serving plate. Spread half of the whipped cream on top, followed by 1 cup of cherry mixture, leaving a 1-inch border. Add the second cake layer with the rounded side up. Cover the top with the remaining whipped cream, spoon on the rest of the cherry mixture, and sprinkle with sliced almonds. Refrigerate covered loosely until serving.
