Spooky Halloween cupcakes topped with hard candy shards and edible blood.
Ingredients:
  • 1 (18.25 ounce) package white cake mix
  • 1 cup water
  • 0.33333334326744 cup vegetable oil
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 (16 ounce) can white frosting
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 cup light corn syrup
  • 3.5 cups white sugar
  • 0.25 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 0.5 cup light corn syrup
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 0.25 cup water, or more as needed
  • 15 drops red food coloring
  • 3 drops blue food coloring
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Line two 12-cupcake tins with paper liners.
  • Combine cake mix, water, vegetable oil, and eggs in a large bowl and mix with a hand mixer on low speed for 2 minutes. Portion out the cake batter into the cupcake tins.
  • Bake cupcakes in the preheated oven for 18-22 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Once cooled, frost with white frosting.
  • Prepare the sugar glass by combining water, corn syrup, white sugar, and cream of tartar in a large saucepan. Bring the mixture to a boil while stirring constantly. Use a candy thermometer to watch the temperature reach 300 degrees F (150 degrees C), reaching the hard ball stage. The mixture will thicken as the water evaporates. Pour the hot sugar onto a metal baking pan and let it cool until completely hardened. Break the glass into "shards" by using a meat mallet.
  • Create a delicious edible blood by combining corn syrup and cornstarch in a large bowl. Gradually incorporate water until the mixture thickens to resemble blood. Add red and blue food coloring for a realistic touch.
  • Pierce frosted cupcakes with shards of sugar glass. Finish by drizzling edible blood on top for a spooky touch.
