Braided Easter bread with sweet yeast dough and whole eggs, a stunning centerpiece for your brunch.
Ingredients:
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour, divided
  • 0.25 cup white sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 (.25 ounce) package active dry yeast
  • 0.66666668653488 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 large eggs
  • 5 large whole eggs, dyed if desired
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted
Instructions:
  • Combine 1 cup of flour, sugar, salt, and yeast in a bowl, stirring until fully mixed.
  • Warm milk and 2 tablespoons of butter in a small saucepan over medium-low heat until the milk is heated and the butter is soft but not melted, which should take about 2 to 3 minutes.
  • Slowly pour the milk mixture into the flour mixture while stirring continuously. Incorporate ½ cup of flour and two eggs until fully blended. Gradually add the remaining 1 ½ cups of flour in three parts, making sure to mix thoroughly after each addition until the dough comes together. Transfer the mixture onto a lightly floured surface and knead for about 8 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  • Transfer the dough to a lightly oiled bowl, making sure to coat all sides evenly. Cover with a damp cloth and allow it to rise in a warm spot until it doubles in volume, approximately 1 hour.
  • Gently deflate dough, transfer to lightly floured surface, divide in half, shape into rounds, cover, and rest for 10 minutes.
  • Prepare a baking sheet by generously spreading butter over its surface.
  • Roll each dough round into a 36-inch-long, 1 ½-inch-thick roll. Twist and shape into a ring on the baking sheet, leaving space for five eggs. Seal the ends and place whole eggs in the spaces. Cover with a damp towel and let rise in a warm place for about 45 minutes, until doubled in size.
  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • After the dough has risen, generously coat the loaf with melted butter. Then, bake in a preheated oven until beautifully golden brown, which should take approximately 30 minutes.
