Indulge in decadent Bread Pudding drizzled with homemade Bourbon Sauce for a sweet twist on a classic dessert favorite.
Ingredients:
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/4 cup butter or margarine
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon or nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 eggs, slightly beaten
  • 6 cups dry bread cubes (8 slices)
  • 1/2 cup raisins, if desired
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons whipping cream
  • 3 to 4 tablespoons bourbon or 2 teaspoons brandy extract
Instructions:
  • Preheat oven to 350°F. In a 2-quart saucepan, gently warm milk and 1/4 cup butter over medium heat until butter is melted and milk is heated through.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together granulated sugar, cinnamon, salt, and eggs until well blended. Add bread cubes and raisins, then pour in the milk mixture. Transfer mixture to an ungreased 8-inch square (2-quart) glass baking dish or a 1 1/2-quart casserole. Place the casserole in a 13x9-inch pan and fill the pan with boiling water until it reaches 1 inch deep.
  • Bake without a cover for 40 to 45 minutes until a knife inserted 1 inch from the edge of the baking dish comes out clean.
  • In a 1-quart heavy saucepan, bring all sauce ingredients to a boil over medium heat, stirring constantly until the sugar dissolves. Drizzle the sauce over the warm bread pudding and refrigerate any leftovers.
