Indulgent brioche dough, perfect for sweet or savory creations.
Ingredients:
  • 1 tablespoon active dry yeast
  • 0.33333334326744 cup warm water (110 degrees F)
  • 3.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon white sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 0.5 teaspoon vegetable oil, or as needed
  • 1 large egg yolk
  • 1 teaspoon cold water
Instructions:
  • Prepare all your ingredients.
  • In a small bowl, combine yeast with warm water and allow it to sit until creamy, approximately 10 minutes.
  • In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, and salt. Create a well in the center and add eggs and yeast mixture. Mix thoroughly until dough forms. Add 1 to 3 tablespoons of warm water, 1 tablespoon at a time, if needed to achieve the right consistency.
  • Transfer dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead until smooth and elastic, approximately 8 minutes.
  • Flatten the dough and generously spread it with one-third of the butter.
  • Incorporate butter into the dough until fully combined.
  • Incorporate the remaining butter into the dough in two additions, allowing the dough to rest for a few minutes between each addition. Total resting time should be about 20 minutes.
  • Grease a large bowl with vegetable oil, add dough, and coat evenly. Cover with plastic wrap and let rise in a warm place until doubled in volume, around 1 hour.
  • Gently press down on the dough, then cover it with plastic wrap and let it chill in the refrigerator for 6 hours or overnight.
  • Preheat your oven to a toasty 400 degrees F (200 degrees C) and lightly grease two 8x4-inch loaf pans.
  • Transfer the dough onto a floured surface, then split it into 2 equal parts, shaping each into loaves before putting them in the loaf pans.
  • Cover the bowl with greased plastic wrap and allow the dough to rise until doubled in size, approximately 1 hour.
  • Prepare the egg wash by whisking together egg yolk and cold water in a small bowl, then brush it on the tops of the loaves.
  • Bake the loaves in the preheated oven until the tops turn deep golden brown, approximately 25 minutes. Let them sit in the pans for 10 minutes before moving them to wire racks to cool completely.
