Cheesy fried broccoli bites, a homemade version of a beloved restaurant treat that mysteriously reappeared once I mastered the recipe at home.
Ingredients:
  • 3 tablespoons prepared Dijon-style mustard
  • 4 tablespoons honey
  • 2 cups broccoli florets
  • 1 cup shredded Cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup milk
  • 0.5 cup sifted all-purpose flour
  • 0.5 teaspoon vegetable oil
  • 0.5 cup vegetable oil for frying
Instructions:
  • Prepare the sauce by combining mustard and honey in a small bowl. Set it aside.
  • Cut the florets into small pieces or pulse gently in a food processor. Mix with shredded cheese in a bowl and keep aside.
  • Whisk the egg and mix in the milk. Combine the sifted flour, baking powder, and salt with the egg and milk mixture, beating thoroughly. Incorporate 1/2 teaspoon of oil. Pour the mixture over the broccoli and cheese, tossing until well coated.
  • Heat oil in a large skillet or saucepan until it reaches 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
  • Spoon broccoli mixture into 375°F (190°C) oil and fry until golden brown. Serve with honey mustard sauce.
