Master the art of searing the perfect steak in a hot pan for a delicious sandwich finale. Supervise any little helpers closely for success.
Ingredients:
  • 1 x 225 g sirloin steak trimmed of fat and sinew
  • olive oil
  • 2 sprigs of fresh rosemary
  • 2 slices of good bread
  • unsalted butter for spreading
  • creamed horseradish, mustard, tomato ketchup, brown sauce optional, for spreading
Instructions:
  • Preheat a non-stick frying pan on high heat. Season the steak with a small pinch of sea salt and black pepper, then rub both sides. Drizzle with 1 tablespoon of olive oil and pat it all over. Finely chop the rosemary leaves from one stalk and rub into the steak. Place the steak in the hot pan and cook for 2 minutes on each side for medium-rare. Use the remaining rosemary sprig to brush oil from the pan over the steak while cooking. Butter the bread, spread with condiment of choice. Let the steak rest for 2 minutes, then drizzle with a little more oil. Slice the steak into strips and toss in resting juices. Arrange strips on one slice of bread, then top with the other slice. Cut the sandwich in half and serve.
