Indulge in delicious sweet and savory scones for a perfect Sunday treat.
Ingredients:
  • 525.00 gm self-raising flour
  • 40.00 gm caster sugar
  • 60g butter, chopped
  • 390.00 gm buttermilk
  • Jam, to serve
  • Whipped cream, to serve
Instructions:
  • Preheat your oven to 220°C (200°C fan-forced) and prepare an 8cm-deep, 19cm square cake pan by greasing and flouring it.
  • Combine flour, sugar, and a pinch of salt in a large bowl, then add butter. Use your fingertips to rub the butter into the flour mixture until it looks like fine breadcrumbs.
  • Create a gentle hollow in the middle of the mixture. Pour in the buttermilk. Using a flat-bladed knife, mix until the dough starts to combine. Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface.
  • Gently knead the dough until it comes together and press it out into a 3cm-thick round. Dip a 5cm round cutter into flour to prevent sticking, then cut out scones. Press any leftover dough pieces together and repeat until you have a total of 16 scones.
  • Arrange the scones closely together in the pan. Bake for 15 to 17 minutes until they turn a light golden color and sound hollow when tapped. Enjoy the scones warm with jam and cream.
