Homemade cinnamon and nutmeg cake doughnuts, prepare the dough in advance for a delicious treat anytime.
Ingredients:
  • 2.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 0.5 cup white sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 0.25 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 0.25 cup butter, melted and cooled
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 quarts oil for deep frying
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Instructions:
  • Combine flour, 1/2 cup sugar, baking powder, salt, 1 teaspoon of cinnamon, and nutmeg in a large bowl. Create a well in the center and add milk, egg, butter, and vanilla. Mix until smooth. Chill in the fridge for 1 hour.
  • Preheat oil to 370 degrees F (185 degrees C in a deep skillet or fryer. Roll chilled dough on a floured surface to 1/2 inch thickness. Cut out doughnuts using a 3-inch round cutter and smaller cutter or bottle to create the holes in the center.
  • Fry the doughnuts in hot oil until golden brown, turning once. Drain them on paper plates. Mix 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon and 1/2 cup sugar in a large resealable bag. Toss a few warm doughnuts into the bag at a time, seal it, and shake to coat them evenly.
