Caramel-Glazed Flan

Flan with extra egg whites, low-fat sweetened condensed milk twist.
Ingredients:
  • 6 egg whites
  • 1.75 cups water
  • 1 (14 ounce) can low-fat sweetened condensed milk
  • 0.5 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 pinch salt
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) for a perfect bake.
  • Melt sugar in a heavy skillet over medium-low heat until it turns light brown. Pour the caramel into a 9-inch round baking dish, swirling to coat the bottom evenly.
  • In a mixing bowl, whisk together egg yolks, egg whites, water, condensed milk, vanilla, and salt until well combined. Transfer the mixture to a baking dish. Create a water bath by placing the baking dish in a roasting pan lined with a damp kitchen towel. Fill the roasting pan with boiling water until it reaches halfway up the sides of the baking dish. Bake in the oven as directed.
  • Bake in a preheated oven for 1 hour until the center is slightly jiggly. Allow the dish to cool on a wire rack for 1 hour, then refrigerate for several hours or overnight.
  • Release the cake by gently sliding a knife along the edges of the pan, then confidently flip it onto a serving platter with a rim.
