Delicious flaky buttermilk biscuits baked in buttered cast iron skillets - perfect for any meal!
Ingredients:
  • 0.5 cup cold butter, divided
  • 1.3333333730698 cups buttermilk
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 5 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon cream of tartar
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to a toasty 425 degrees F (220 degrees C) and get those cast iron skillets buttered up with 1 tablespoon each.
  • Heat up skillets in the preheated oven until the butter is melted, about 5 to 10 minutes.
  • Combine the buttermilk and eggs in a small bowl.
  • In a large bowl, mix flour, baking powder, cream of tartar, and salt. Use your fingers to blend in the remaining 6 tablespoons of butter until the mixture becomes crumbly. Finally, gently incorporate the buttermilk mixture until the dough barely comes together.
  • Transfer the dough onto a lightly floured surface. Shape it into a 1/2-inch thick rectangle and slice it into 24 biscuits.
  • Take the skillets out of the oven and place 12 biscuits in each skillet, positioning them side-by-side with their edges touching.
  • Place skillets back in the oven and bake until the biscuits are puffed and lightly browned, for 15 to 20 minutes.
