Indulge in homemade crispy fried lemon chicken with a delightful sweet and sour sauce, reminiscent of Chinese takeout.
Ingredients:
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon lemon zest
  • 1 cup panko bread crumbs
  • 4 skinless, boneless chicken breasts, trimmed and pounded thin
  • 0.5 cup canola oil
  • 0.66666668653488 cup white sugar
  • 0.5 cup lemon juice
  • 3 tablespoons cornstarch
Instructions:
  • Combine the flour, garlic powder, salt, pepper, and cloves in a flat dish.
  • In another flat dish, whisk together eggs and lemon zest. Place panko bread crumbs in a third shallow dish.
  • Coat each chicken breast in flour, then dip in eggs, and finally coat thoroughly with panko.
  • In a deep pan over medium heat, crisp up chicken in batches until golden and cooked through, about 15 to 20 minutes, turning occasionally. Ensure the chicken reaches at least 165 degrees F (74 degrees C) when checked with a thermometer in the center.
  • While the chicken cooks, in a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine sugar and water and allow it to gently warm up.
  • Combine lemon juice and cornstarch in a bowl, then whisk into the heated syrup until thickened by slowly increasing the heat until sauce boils.
  • Drizzle each succulent chicken breast with the perfect amount of sauce and present beautifully.
