Cherry chocolate scones: a delightful twist on a classic treat.
Ingredients:
  • 2 cups Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour
  • 5 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 5 tablespoons cold butter
  • 1/4 cup dried tart cherries, chopped
  • 1/4 cup chopped bittersweet baking chocolate
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 2 teaspoons sliced almonds
Instructions:
  • Preheat oven to 450°F and cover a cookie sheet with parchment paper.
  • Combine flour, 5 tablespoons of sugar, baking powder, and salt in a large bowl. Use a pastry blender or fork to incorporate butter until mixture resembles coarse meal. Gently fold in cherries and chocolate. In a separate small bowl, whisk together egg, 1/2 cup plus 3 tablespoons milk, and almond extract. Add this mixture to the flour mixture, stirring until just combined (dough will be sticky).
  • Place the dough on a cookie sheet and shape it into an 8-inch round using floured hands. Cut the round into 12 wedges without separating them. Brush the dough with 1 tablespoon of milk, then sprinkle with 1 teaspoon of sugar and almonds.
  • Bake until golden brown, then gently separate the wedges and serve warm.
