Indulge in a simple and versatile chocolate snack cake recipe. Customize with nuts, baking chips, or dried fruit. Perfect for sharing, or keeping all to yourself!
Ingredients:
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1/2 cup cocoa
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 2 eggs, lightly beaten
  • 1 cup chopped nuts, optional, see note
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar, optional
Instructions:
  • - Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C) and generously grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  • Mix together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a large bowl until fully combined.
  • In a bowl, mix boiling water and butter until the butter is melted. Let it cool for 5 minutes. Then, vigorously whisk in the eggs before stirring in the vanilla until well combined.
  • Combine the wet mixture with the dry mixture and beat for approximately 2 minutes until well incorporated. If desired, gently fold in nuts.
  • Transfer the batter into the greased pan and bake in the center of the preheated oven for 30 to 35 minutes, or until a wooden pick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  • Allow the cake to cool completely on a wire rack for about 15 minutes. Then, if desired, sift powdered sugar over the cake using a mesh sieve or sifter. Cut the cake into squares and serve.
