Chocolate-Strawberry Shortcakes

Elevate strawberry shortcakes with decadent chocolate shortcakes.
Ingredients:
  • 1 quart (4 cups) fresh strawberries, sliced
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 cups Original Bisquick™ mix
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened baking cocoa
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 2/3 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons butter or margarine, melted
  • 1/3 cup miniature semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1 1/2 cups Cool Whip frozen whipped topping, thawed
Instructions:
  • Mix ripe strawberries with a generous amount of sugar in a bowl until well coated, then allow to sit for one hour.
  • Preheat the oven to 375°F and lightly grease a cookie sheet. Combine Bisquick mix, cocoa, 2 tablespoons sugar, milk, and butter in a medium bowl until a soft dough forms. Mix in chocolate chips and then drop spoonfuls of dough onto the prepared cookie sheet.
  • Bake for 12 to 15 minutes until the tops of the shortcakes look dry and cracked, then let them cool for 15 minutes. Split the warm shortcakes with a serrated knife and fill and top them with strawberries and whipped topping.
