Elevate classic summer shortcake with rich dark chocolate and luscious caramel sauce.
Ingredients:
  • 1 quart (4 cups) fresh strawberries, sliced
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 2 cups Original Bisquick™ mix
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened baking cocoa
  • 2/3 cup milk
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup chopped bittersweet dark chocolate bar with almonds
  • 6 teaspoons caramel sauce
  • 1 1/2 cups Cool Whip frozen whipped topping, thawed
Instructions:
  • Combine fresh, juicy strawberries with a generous 1/2 cup of sugar in a bowl. Allow the mixture to marinate for 1 hour to enhance the flavors.
  • Preheat oven to 375°F and cover a cookie sheet with cooking spray. Combine Bisquick mix, cocoa, 1/4 cup sugar, milk, and butter in a medium bowl until a soft dough forms. Mix in chopped chocolate. Place spoonfuls of dough onto the cookie sheet for baking.
  • Bake for 12-15 minutes until the shortcakes' tops look dry and cracked. Transfer them from the cookie sheet to a cooling rack and let cool for 15 minutes.
  • With a serrated knife, gently cut the warm shortcakes in half. Arrange 2 halves on each dessert plate. Add fresh strawberries, around 1/2 teaspoon of caramel sauce, and 1/4 cup of whipped topping to each portion. Finish by drizzling another 1/2 teaspoon of caramel sauce on top for a delicious final touch.
