Make these irresistible, gooey treats for your next tailgate!
Ingredients:
  • 1/3 cup butter or margarine
  • 2 oz bittersweet baking chocolate, chopped
  • 1 cup Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/3 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 egg, slightly beaten
  • 1 tablespoon milk
  • 1/4 cup hot caramel topping (from 12-oz jar)
  • 6 caramels, unwrapped, cut into quarters
  • 1/3 cup cashew pieces
  • 1 bar (1.55 oz) milk chocolate candy, broken into pieces
Instructions:
  • Preheat your oven to 350°F. Combine butter and bittersweet chocolate in a small microwavable bowl. Microwave on Medium (50%) power for 1 minute, stirring halfway through. Continue microwaving for another 30 seconds or until the mixture is melted and smooth. Allow it to cool slightly.
  • Combine flour, granulated sugar, brown sugar, and baking soda in a medium bowl. Mix in the egg, milk, and cooled chocolate mixture until fully combined.
  • Press half of the dough into an ungreased 8-inch square pan and bake for 8 minutes.
  • In a 1-quart saucepan, melt caramels with caramel topping over gentle heat, stirring constantly until smooth.
  • Take the pan out of the oven and gently drizzle the caramel mixture over the partially baked base, leaving a 1/2-inch border around the edges. Scatter cashews over the top. Break the remaining dough into small pieces and sprinkle over the filling, allowing some of the filling to peek through. Bake for an additional 12 to 15 minutes until the edges are just set, being careful not to overbake.
  • Place chocolate candy bar pieces in a small microwavable bowl and microwave on High for 30 seconds, or until melted. Drizzle the melted chocolate diagonally over the baked bars. Allow to cool completely for at least 1 hour. Cut into 4 rows by 4 rows to make bars.
