Fluffy, buttery Mexican breakfast bread with cinnamon streusel topping, shaped like a seashell - Conchas.
Ingredients:
  • 0.5 cup warm water
  • 2.5 teaspoons yeast
  • 0.5 cup evaporated milk
  • 0.375 cup white sugar
  • 0.33333334326744 cup butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 0.66666668653488 cup white sugar
  • 0.5 cup butter, softened
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
Instructions:
  • Assemble all the ingredients needed for the recipe.
  • Combine warm water and yeast in a large bowl. Allow it to rest until the yeast softens and a creamy foam starts to form, approximately 5 minutes.
  • Combine 2 cups of flour, milk, sugar, melted butter, egg, and salt until fully incorporated.
  • Incorporate the remaining 2 cups of flour and cinnamon slowly until dough forms.
  • Transfer the dough onto a floured surface and knead for 6 to 8 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic. Wrap in a cozy embrace of a large greased bowl to let it rest and rise.
  • Allow the mixture to rest in a cozy spot until it has doubled in size, approximately 1 hour.
  • Prepare the topping by combining sugar and butter in a medium bowl, then beat with an electric mixer until light and fluffy.
  • Mix in flour until a thick paste is achieved.
  • Divide the paste in half, adding cinnamon to one portion and vanilla to the other.
  • Separate the dough into 12 equal portions. Roll each portion into a ball and arrange them 3 inches apart on a greased cookie sheet.
  • Form each portion of topping into 6 balls and flatten them. Place the topping circles on top of the dough balls and lightly press down. Use a knife to create grooves in the topping resembling a seashell.
  • Allow the dough to rest under a cozy cover until it doubles in size, approximately 45 minutes.
  • Preheat the oven to a toasty 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
  • Bake until beautifully golden for about 20 minutes in the preheated oven.
