Recreate trendy crispy rice sushi bites inspired by Nobu's popular appetizer.
Ingredients:
  • 2.5 cups prepared sushi rice
  • 0.5 cup neutral-flavored oil, such as grapeseed or canola
  • 1 pound sushi grade tuna, finely diced
  • 3 tablespoons Japanese mayonnaise (such as Kewpie®)
  • 2 tablespoons Sriracha, plus more for serving
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 2 teaspoons sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon lime juice, or more to taste
  • 1 avocado, thinly sliced
  • 0.5 jalapeno pepper, thinly sliced
  • sesame seeds, for garnish
Instructions:
  • Press the sushi rice firmly into an 8x8-inch square cake pan lined with plastic wrap. Chill in the refrigerator for 2 to 3 hours or in the freezer for 30 minutes.
  • In a large skillet over medium heat, heat 1/2 cup of oil. Cut the rice into thick, rectangular shapes (2 to 3 inches in length, 1 inch in width). Fry the pieces in the hot oil until deep golden brown on each side, about 2 to 3 minutes. Drain on paper towels.
  • Mix diced tuna with creamy mayonnaise, spicy Sriracha, savory soy sauce, fragrant sesame oil, and zesty lime juice in a bowl until well combined.
  • For plating, arrange crispy sushi rice on a lovely serving platter. Add 1 to 2 tablespoons of the zesty tuna blend on each portion. Place a few avocado slices on top. Finish with a delicate swirl of Sriracha, a jalapeño slice, and a sprinkle of sesame seeds for a delightful touch.
