Authentic cornbread with a crusty golden exterior, made in a comforting cast-iron skillet using cornmeal and buttermilk for extra flavor.
Ingredients:
  • 1 1/2 cups cornmeal
  • 1 cup Original Bisquick™ mix
  • 1/2 cup butter or margarine, melted
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 2 eggs
Instructions:
  • Preheat oven to 425°F. Grease generously a 10-inch cast-iron skillet, 9-inch round pan, or 8-inch square pan with shortening. If using a skillet, place the greased skillet in the oven for about 5 minutes until hot.
  • Mix all ingredients together until the batter is smooth, then transfer it into the pan.
  • Bake until golden brown: 15-18 minutes in a skillet or 18-22 minutes in a round or square pan. Serve warm.
