Show-stopping Christmas dinner bread enjoyed by all, perfect with any dish or as a standalone treat.
Ingredients:
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 0.75 cup white sugar
  • 1 tablespoon fennel seed
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1.75 cups buttermilk
  • 2 teaspoons melted butter
  • 3 tablespoons butter, chilled
Instructions:
  • Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) and generously grease a 10-inch round cake pan.
  • Combine flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, sugar, and fennel seed in a large bowl. In a separate bowl, mix eggs, buttermilk, and melted butter. Gently fold the wet mixture into the dry ingredients until just combined. Transfer batter into the pan and top with 3 tablespoons of chilled butter.
  • Bake for approximately 1 hour in the oven until beautifully puffed and golden. Slice into wedges and serve while still warm.
