Sweetened turnip dish with carrots, a holiday favorite requested year after year.
Ingredients:
  • 3 large carrots, cubed
  • 1 large turnip, cubed
  • 3 tablespoons softened butter
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 0.25 cup all-purpose flour
  • 0.25 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) and generously grease a 2-quart casserole dish.
  • In a large pot, combine the carrot and turnip cubes with salted water. Bring to a boil over high heat, then simmer covered on medium-low until tender, about 20 minutes. Drain and let steam dry for a minute or two.
  • Add the carrots and turnips back to the pot and mash thoroughly with butter, salt, flour, and 1/4 cup of sugar. Combine eggs and milk in a bowl, then mix into the mashed vegetables until smooth. Transfer everything into a casserole dish. Mix 2 tablespoons of sugar with cinnamon in a small bowl and sprinkle over the top of the mash.
  • Bake until the carrot mash sets slightly and the top turns golden brown, approximately 45 minutes in the preheated oven.
