Savory-sweet marinade for flank steak made with brown sugar, honey, soy sauce, garlic, and green onion.
Ingredients:
  • 1 (1 1/2-pound) flank steak, fat trimmed
  • 0.75 cup olive oil
  • 0.5 cup light brown sugar
  • 0.5 cup dry red wine
  • 0.25 cup soy sauce
  • 3 tablespoons onion powder
  • 3 tablespoons honey
  • 3 whole green onions, coarsely chopped
  • 4 cloves garlic
  • 2 tablespoons garlic vinegar
  • 1.5 teaspoons ground ginger
  • 1.5 teaspoons garlic powder
Instructions:
  • Create a diamond pattern on both sides of the flank steak by scoring shallow crisscross cuts.
  • Combine olive oil, light brown sugar, red wine, soy sauce, onion powder, honey, green onions, garlic cloves, garlic vinegar, ground ginger, and garlic powder in a blender. Blend until smooth, then transfer to a resealable plastic bag. Add steak, coat evenly, remove air, and seal. Refrigerate for 8 hours to overnight for marination.
  • Take the steak out of the refrigerator and transfer the marinade to a small saucepan. Let the steak rest at room temperature for 20 minutes.
  • Bring the marinade to a boil over high heat, then let it simmer on medium-low for 10 minutes before setting it aside.
  • Prepare your outdoor grill by preheating it to medium-high heat and lightly oiling the grate.
  • Grill the steak on the preheated grill for about 7 minutes on each side, basting frequently with the cooked marinade, until it's slightly firm on the outside, reddish-pink, and juicy in the center. Use an instant-read thermometer to check for medium rare doneness - it should read 130°F (54°C) in the center.
