Divine date and walnut bars: Simple to make, irresistibly sweet and buttery. A heavenly indulgence!
Ingredients:
  • 1.25 cups sifted all-purpose flour
  • 0.5 teaspoon baking powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 cup dates, pitted and chopped
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (180 degrees C) while preparing a 9x13-inch baking pan by greasing and lining it with parchment paper.
  • In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Reserve 1/2 cup of the mixture in a separate bowl, then add dates and toss to coat.
  • In a large bowl, use an electric mixer to cream together butter, white sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Gradually mix in the flour mixture, then fold in the floured dates and walnuts until fully combined. Transfer the batter to the prepared pan.
  • Place the mixture in the preheated oven for 10 minutes, then lower the temperature to 300 degrees F (150 degrees C) and continue baking until the top is dry and the edges begin to separate from the sides of the pan, taking about 30 to 40 more minutes.
  • Allow to cool on a wire rack for 20 minutes before slicing into 36 bars.
