Fried Pie Pastry

Create perfect dough for fried hand pies easily by hand or with a food processor.
Ingredients:
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 0.75 cup shortening
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 0.25 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon distilled white vinegar
Instructions:
  • In a bowl, mix together flour and salt. Use a pastry blender to cut in shortening until it looks like coarse meal. In a separate bowl, combine egg and water, and sprinkle over the flour mixture. Add vinegar and gently stir with a fork until all dry ingredients are moistened. Shape the mixture into a ball.
  • Refrigerate dough wrapped in wax paper for a minimum of one hour before proceeding with your favorite fried pie recipe.
