Decadent chocolate caramel bars with a crunchy twist of pretzels.
Ingredients:
  • 3/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 3/4 cup butter or margarine, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup old-fashioned or quick-cooking oats
  • 1 bag (14 oz) caramels, unwrapped
  • 1/3 cup half-and-half
  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chunks
  • 1 cup coarsely chopped mixed nuts
  • 1/4 cup broken pretzel twists
Instructions:
  • Preheat oven to 350°F (or 325°F for dark or nonstick pan). Grease a 13x9-inch pan with shortening or cooking spray.
  • In a large bowl, use an electric mixer on medium speed to blend together brown sugar, butter, and egg until smooth. Mix in flour and oats until well combined. Spread the mixture evenly in a pan and bake until lightly golden brown, about 15 to 20 minutes.
  • In a cozy 1-quart saucepan, gently warm caramels and half-and-half together until the caramels melt, stirring occasionally. Pour the luscious caramel blend over the crust, then top it off with chocolate chunks, nuts, and pretzels for a delightful finish.
  • Bake for 5 to 8 minutes until the chocolate is soft. Allow to cool for about 1 hour until the chocolate is firm. Cut into bars by making 6 rows horizontally and 6 rows vertically.
