Indulgent caramel apples coated in rich milk chocolate and colorful candy melts for year-round celebration!
Ingredients:
  • 5 large Granny Smith apples
  • 1 (14 ounce) package individually wrapped caramels, unwrapped
  • 7 ounces chocolate candy bar, broken into pieces
  • 2 tablespoons shortening, divided
  • 1 cup colored candy coating melts
Instructions:
  • Simply boil a pot of water. Quickly dip apples in boiling water using a slotted spoon to remove any wax. Pat dry and let cool. Insert sticks into the apples through the cores.
  • Prepare a baking sheet by lining it with waxed paper and coating it with cooking spray. Place unwrapped caramels and 2 tablespoons of water in a microwave-safe medium bowl. Microwave on high for 2 minutes, stirring and continuing to cook in 1-minute intervals until the caramel is melted and smooth.
  • Grab the apples by the stick and dip them into the luscious caramel until fully coated. Place them on waxed paper and chill in the refrigerator for approximately 15 minutes until the caramel sets.
  • Melt the chocolate and 1 tablespoon of shortening in a microwave-safe bowl until smooth. Dip apples into the chocolate, covering the caramel layer, and place back on waxed paper to set.
  • Melt the candy melts in the microwave with the remaining shortening, stirring every 30 seconds until smooth. Use a fork or wooden stick to flick colored designs onto your apples for a finishing touch. Refrigerate until firm, preferably overnight.
