Create new holiday tradition with grandma's classic sweet caramel popcorn balls.
Ingredients:
  • 8 quarts popped popcorn
  • 2 cups evaporated milk
  • 2 cups white sugar
  • 1 cup dark corn syrup (such as Karo®)
  • 1 cup margarine
  • 0.125 teaspoon salt
Instructions:
  • Scan through the popcorn, removing any kernels that did not pop.
  • In a large saucepan over medium heat, combine evaporated milk, sugar, corn syrup, margarine, and salt. Bring to a boil, stirring constantly until the caramel reaches 246 degrees F (119 degrees C) on a candy thermometer, around 5 minutes.
  • First, generously sprinkle the popcorn into an extra-large bowl. Next, drizzle in the caramel and mix thoroughly until evenly coated. Then, gradually add the rest of the popcorn and caramel in stages, mixing well after each addition.
  • Spoon the popcorn mixture onto plastic wrap and shape it into a ball by twisting the wrap gently. Place the popcorn ball on a parchment-lined baking sheet and repeat with the rest of the mixture. Allow to cool and set for about 15 minutes.
