Cherished family recipe: Grandma's irresistible cloverleaf rolls always steal the show at our gatherings.
Ingredients:
  • 1 cup milk
  • 0.25 cup white sugar
  • 0.25 cup vegetable shortening
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 (.25 ounce) package active dry yeast
  • 0.25 cup warm water (110 degrees F (43 degrees C))
  • 1 large egg
  • 3.3333332538605 cups all-purpose flour
Instructions:
  • Prepare a 12-cup muffin tin and a large bowl by greasing them. Set aside.
  • Warm milk in a saucepan over medium heat until small bubbles start to appear. Add sugar, shortening, and salt; let cool until it reaches 110 degrees F (43 degrees C).
  • Allow the yeast to bloom in warm water until it turns foamy, typically in about 5 minutes.
  • In a large bowl, vigorously whisk the egg, then incorporate the yeast and milk mixtures until well blended. Add half of the flour and stir until no lumps are present. Gradually mix in the remaining flour until a silky dough is achieved. Place the dough in the prepared bowl, rotating to coat the top with grease. Cover the bowl and allow the dough to rise until it doubles in size, approximately 2 hours.
  • After deflating the dough, place it on a generously floured surface. Divide the dough into 36 equal pieces and form them into balls. Put 3 balls into each muffin cup. Cover and allow the dough balls to double in size in a warm spot for about 1 hour.
  • Preheat the oven to a piping hot 400°F (200°C).
  • Bake until golden brown in the preheated oven for 12 to 15 minutes. Serve while warm.
