Homemade green bean casserole with Cheddar and cracker topping - ideal for Thanksgiving.
Ingredients:
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 0.25 cup diced onion
  • 1 teaspoon white sugar
  • 3 (14.5 ounce) cans French-style green beans, drained
  • 2 cups shredded Cheddar cheese
  • 0.5 cup crumbled buttery round crackers
  • 1 tablespoon butter, melted
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) to ensure the perfect cooking temperature.
  • In a large skillet over medium heat, melt butter until smooth. Add flour and cook for 1 minute. Stir in sour cream, onion, salt, and sugar. Add green beans and coat them with the mixture. Transfer everything to a 2 1/2-quart casserole dish.
  • Cover the green bean mixture with a generous layer of sharp Cheddar cheese. Mix together cracker crumbs and melted butter in a small bowl, then sprinkle the mixture over the green beans.
  • Bake until the topping is golden and the cheese is bubbly in the preheated oven for approximately 30 minutes.
