Grandmother's Brown Sugar Cookies

Versatile cookie dough, easy to roll out multiple times, yields a large batch of cookies.
Ingredients:
  • 3 cups packed brown sugar
  • 0.75 cup shortening
  • 0.75 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 0.75 teaspoon baking soda
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).
  • Combine the sugar, shortening, and eggs until creamy. Stir in vanilla extract until well combined.
  • Combine the flour, baking soda, and cream of tartar in a separate bowl. Then add this mixture to the brown sugar mixture and stir until a soft dough forms.
  • Roll out the dough and use fun-shaped cookie cutters to create your desired shapes. Place the cookies on a baking sheet and bake for 8 to 10 minutes until golden brown.
