Create a stunning Granny's Patchwork Quilt Cake with sanding sugar squares on a fluffy white Betty Crocker™ Super Moist™ sheet cake - perfect for a quilter's birthday!
Ingredients:
  • 1 box Betty Crocker™ Super Moist™ White Cake Mix
  • Water, vegetable oil and eggs called for on cake mix box
  • 1 3/4 tubs (12 oz) Betty Crocker™ Whipped Fluffy White Frosting
  • 1/3 cup multicolored (rainbow) sanding sugar
  • 1/3 cup clear sanding sugar
  • 12 green miniature marshmallows
  • 6 yellow miniature marshmallows
  • 1 tablespoon green sanding sugar
  • 1 tablespoon yellow sanding sugar
  • 6 yellow edible jumbo sugar pearls
Instructions:
  • Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease a 13x9-inch pan with shortening or cooking spray. Prepare and bake the cake according to package instructions for a 13x9-inch pan, using water, oil, and eggs. Allow the cake to cool for 10 minutes, then transfer it from the pan to a cooling rack. Cool completely for about 1 hour.
  • Place the cake upside-down on a 13x9-inch cake board or platter. Spread 1 container of frosting over the cake using an offset spatula. Chill the cake in the refrigerator for 45 minutes or until the frosting is firm.
  • Smoothly apply a second layer of frosting to the cake, making sure to cover the entire surface and filling in any gaps along the bottom edge of the cake.
  • Using the dull edge of a large knife, create 12 squares on top of the cake. Alternate decorating squares with multicolored sanding sugar, then fill the remaining squares with clear sanding sugar.
  • Prepare the flowers by cutting each marshmallow in half with clean kitchen scissors. Dip the green marshmallow halves into green sanding sugar and the yellow marshmallow halves into yellow sanding sugar to coat the cut edges. Place a dime-sized dot of frosting in the center of each white square on the cake. Create flower petals by arranging 5 marshmallow halves in a flower shape on top of each frosting dot, making sure the sugared side is facing up. Gently press the petals to adhere. Finish by pressing a yellow sugar pearl into the center of each flower. Keep the cake loosely covered for storage.
