Transport yourself back in time with these traditional, homemade scones reminiscent of Granny's baking.
Ingredients:
  • 500.00 ml plain flour, sifted
  • 16.00 gm baking powder
  • 20.00 gm caster sugar
  • 1 egg, at room temperature
  • 57.50 gm canola oil
  • 62.50 gm lukewarm water
  • Butter, to serve
  • Your favourite jam, to serve
Instructions:
  • Preheat your oven and baking tray to 200°C.
  • In a large bowl, mix together flour, baking powder, sugar, and a pinch of salt. In a separate jug, whisk together egg, oil, milk, and water. Pour the egg mixture into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined, adding a splash of water if needed. Be careful not to overmix the dough for the best results.
  • Transfer the dough onto a floured surface and gently flatten it to a thickness of 2cm. Use a 5cm scone cutter to cut out the scones. Arrange them on a preheated baking tray, leaving some space between each one. Bake the scones for about 10 minutes until they are puffed up and beautifully golden. Enjoy the warm scones with butter and jam.
