Make impressive ghost cookies for Halloween with easy decorating, perfect for beginners.
Ingredients:
  • 1 cup butter
  • 1.5 cups confectioners' sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 0.25 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup confectioners' sugar
  • 2 teaspoons milk, plus more if needed
  • 2 teaspoons light corn syrup, or more as needed
  • 0.25 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 (12 ounce) package miniature semisweet chocolate chips
Instructions:
  • Using an electric mixer, whip butter in a bowl until creamy. Gradually add 1 1/2 cups of confectioners' sugar and continue beating until light and fluffy. Mix in egg and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract.
  • In a separate bowl, mix together flour, baking soda, cream of tartar, and salt. Add this flour mixture to the butter mixture and mix well. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour before using.
  • Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
  • Sprinkle flour on a clean surface and roll out the dough into a thin circle. Use a tulip-shaped cookie cutter to cut out shapes, removing any stems with a knife for a stemless tulip look. Place the cut-out cookies on baking sheets without greasing them.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 6 to 8 minutes until lightly browned. Carefully remove from baking sheets and transfer to wire racks. Allow to cool completely for about 15 minutes.
  • Combine 1 cup confectioners' sugar and milk in a small bowl, stirring until smooth. Mix in corn syrup and 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract until the icing is smooth and glossy. Adjust consistency by adding more corn syrup if needed.
  • Transfer the icing to a piping bag fitted with a small plain tip. Pipe icing along the edge of each cookie to form a border, then fill the center generously with icing. Place two chocolate chip cookies onto the wet icing to create eyes. Allow the cookies to sit until the icing has dried, approximately 1 hour.
