Caramelized sweet onions simmered in butter and hard cider, creating a flavorful topping for hot dogs or sausages.
Ingredients:
  • 2 large sweet onions, sliced lengthwise
  • 0.25 teaspoon garlic sea salt (such as Morton's®)
  • 0.5 cup hard cider (such as Woodchuck® Amber)
  • 0.125 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 pinch white sugar, or to taste
Instructions:
  • In a large skillet over medium heat, melt butter until sizzling. Stir in onions and garlic salt, cooking until tender and slightly caramelized for 5-10 minutes. Pour in hard cider and sprinkle with black pepper, then cover and simmer for about 10 minutes to meld the flavors.
  • Allow the skillet to uncover and cook until the cooking liquid has evaporated, approximately 5 minutes. Sweeten with sugar as desired.
