Spread love with cinnamon candy-filled heart-shaped cookies.
Ingredients:
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon milk
  • 1 1/2 cups Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon red edible glitter
  • 1/4 cup red cinnamon candies
  • 1/3 cup water
  • 3 tablespoons butter, softened
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
Instructions:
  • In a medium bowl, use an electric mixer to whip up a luscious blend of 1/2 cup butter, granulated sugar, and egg until smooth. Add in milk and vanilla, mixing thoroughly and scraping the sides of the bowl as needed. Finally, gently mix in flour and baking powder on low speed until the batter is perfectly combined, remembering to scrape the bowl to incorporate all ingredients evenly.
  • Divide dough into 2 equal portions and wrap them in plastic wrap. Gently flatten each portion to 1/2-inch thickness. Chill in the refrigerator until firm, for about 1 hour.
  • Preheat oven to 400°F. Roll out half of the dough on a floured surface to 1/8 inch thickness. Use a small (2-inch) heart-shaped cookie cutter to cut out shapes. Place cookies on ungreased baking sheets, spacing them 1 inch apart. Sprinkle glitter over the cookies. Bake for 5 to 8 minutes, until edges are lightly browned. Repeat with the second half of the dough, but skip the glitter. Transfer baked cookies to a cooling rack and let cool completely for about 10 minutes.
  • In a 2-quart saucepan, melt candies with water over medium-high heat, stirring constantly until boiling. Then simmer on medium-low for about 3 minutes until candies are melted, stirring frequently. Remove from heat and whisk in butter and powdered sugar gradually until smooth.
  • Place a generous teaspoon of filling in the middle of the flat side of an undecorated cookie, then press another cookie on top firmly to seal the filling inside.
