Indulgent homemade sweetened condensed milk using pantry staples. Elevate your recipes with a velvety, irresistible twist!
Ingredients:
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2-3/4 cup sugar, depending on your preference (the full amount makes it quite sweet)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions:
  • In a medium heavy-bottomed saucepan over medium-high heat, combine milk, sugar, and salt. Whisk until sugar is dissolved and allow the mixture to come to a gentle simmer.
  • Reduce heat and simmer: After the sugar has dissolved, reduce the heat to a simmer without whisking to prevent crystal formation. Ensure the milk stays at a simmer, adjusting heat if it foams up. Cook uncovered, stirring occasionally to reduce volume by half, which should take 30 to 45 minutes.
  • Check the color and consistency - Once the condensed milk thickens to the texture of maple syrup and deepens in color, it's ready. Add vanilla, remove from heat, and strain if needed. Allow to cool.
  • Seal: Transfer the chilled condensed milk to a sealed container, mark the production date, and refrigerate for up to one month. If you enjoyed the dish, please rate us below!
