Delicious homemade Chinese-inspired hot and sweet sauce.
Ingredients:
  • 0.5 cup rice vinegar
  • 0.5 cup white sugar
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 0.25 teaspoon salt
  • 1.5 teaspoons dried red pepper flakes
Instructions:
  • In a small, nonreactive pot, bring vinegar to a boil. Stir in sugar until fully dissolved. Simmer over low heat for 5 minutes, then remove from heat.
  • Create a silky garlic paste by mashing garlic and salt in a mortar and pestle. Combine the paste with sweetened vinegar in a pot, then mix in red pepper flakes. Allow it to cool to room temperature. Refrigerate for up to 2 days before use.
