Maximize space and simplify thawing by freezing liquid foods efficiently.
Ingredients:
  • Quart- or gallon-sized zip-top freezer bags
  • 4-cup fluid measuring cup or other tall, skinny container
  • 1-cup measuring cup
  • Canning funnel, if you have one
  • Baking sheet
Instructions:
  • Fill the freezer bags: Place a freezer bag in a 4-cup measuring cup or container. Hold the bag open with one hand (or use a canning funnel) and fill it using a measuring cup, leaving space for liquids to expand while freezing.
  • Remove excess air from bags by gently pressing and utilizing a straw for maximum air removal. Seal bags securely and label with contents.
  • Lay the bags flat on a baking sheet in stacks of no more than 4. Freeze until solid.
  • Store the bags: After freezing, remove the baking sheet and arrange the bags in your preferred storage method. If the bags have stuck together during freezing, gently separate them as necessary.
  • For overnight thawing, place the bag in a container in the fridge. To thaw in the microwave, place the bag on a dinner plate and thaw in short bursts until the food can be easily removed. Transfer the food to a container to finish thawing.
