Savory bread slices fried and soaked in aromatic cardamom syrup, cooked with creamy milk, plump raisins, and crunchy nuts for a decadent Indian dessert.
Ingredients:
  • 10 slices bread, crusts removed and bread cut into triangles diagonally
  • 1 cup vegetable oil for frying, or as needed
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1.5 cups water
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground cardamom
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 0.25 cup raisins
  • 0.25 cup chopped almonds
  • 0.25 cup chopped cashews
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to 300 degrees F (150 degrees C).
  • Arrange bread triangles on a baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven until golden brown and crisp, approximately 5 minutes per side.
  • In a large skillet over medium heat, warm vegetable oil. Fry batches of bread triangles until golden brown, about 2 to 4 minutes. Remove and drain on paper towels.
  • In a saucepan, combine sugar, water, and cardamom, whisk together and simmer until slightly reduced, about 10 to 15 minutes. Dip bread triangles into the fragrant syrup until fully soaked, then place on a plate.
  • In a sturdy saucepan, gently heat the milk. Add the soaked bread triangles to the milk and cook over low heat until the bread absorbs the milk and the fat separates, about 10-15 minutes. Mix in the raisins and top with almonds and cashews for a finishing touch.
