Italian-style stuffed peppers, filled with Classico® Tomato & Basil Sauce, sausage, Parmesan, and Italian spices.
Ingredients:
  • 4 large green bell peppers, cut in half lengthwise, seeds removed
  • 1 pound ground beef sirloin
  • 4 ounces ground Italian sausage
  • 1 cup cooked brown rice
  • 1 teaspoon dried Italian seasoning
  • 0.5 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 0.25 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 large egg, lightly beaten
  • 1 (24 ounce) jar Classico® Tomato and Basil Pasta Sauce, divided
  • 2 cups shredded part-skim mozzarella cheese
  • Fresh chopped parsley
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and generously spray a roasting pan large enough for 8 pepper halves in a single layer with cooking spray.
  • In a large bowl, mix together ground sirloin, Italian sausage, brown rice, Italian seasonings, salt, pepper, garlic, Parmesan cheese, egg, and 1/2 cup Classico® Tomato & Basil sauce until well combined.
  • Evenly distribute the meat mixture into the green pepper halves and gently press to compact. Place the halves in the pan, then spoon the remaining Classico® Tomato & Basil sauce over the tops. Cover securely with foil before baking.
  • Roast until the peppers are tender and the meat reaches an internal temperature of 165 degrees F, around 1 1/2 hours.
  • Take the peppers out of the oven and uncover them. Sprinkle each pepper with shredded cheese.
  • Preheat oven to broil. Place uncovered peppers under the broiler until cheese is melted and bubbly, approximately 5 minutes. Sprinkle with parsley before serving.
