Betty Crocker cake mix and frosting turned into adorable Halloween cake pops coated in candy – a sweet and festive treat!
Ingredients:
  • 1 box Betty Crocker™ Delights Super Moist™ Spice Cake Mix
  • Water, vegetable oil and eggs called for on cake mix box
  • 1 cup from 1 tub (16 oz) Betty Crocker™ Rich & Creamy Cream Cheese Frosting
  • 4 cups orange candy melts
  • 2 tablespoons shortening
  • 54 paper lollipop sticks
  • Black string licorice, cut into 54 (2 1/2-inch) pieces
  • Block of plastic foam
  • 1/2 cup black candy melts, melted
  • 1/4 cup small multicolored candies or sprinkles
Instructions:
  • Prepare the cake mix as instructed on the box for a 13x9-inch pan using water, oil, and eggs. Allow to cool. Line a cookie sheet with waxed paper. Crumble the cake into a large bowl, mix in the frosting until well combined. Shape the mixture into 1 1/4-inch balls, slightly flatten the tops. Place the balls on the cookie sheet. Freeze until firm and store in the refrigerator.
  • In a microwavable bowl, heat orange candy melts and shortening uncovered on Medium (50%) for 1 minute, then in 15-second intervals until melted. Stir until smooth. Dip the tip of a lollipop stick about 1/2 inch into the melted candy and insert it into the rounded bottom of a cake ball, no more than halfway. Repeat with the remaining cake balls and place them back on the cookie sheet. Chill in the refrigerator for 5 minutes. Take out a few at a time and dip them in the melted orange candy, tapping off any excess. Insert the opposite end of the stick into a foam block. Quickly attach licorice to resemble a handle, holding it in place until set. Let the cake balls stand until the coating is completely set.
  • Drizzle melted black candy into a resealable plastic bag, seal it, cut a tiny corner off the bag, and pipe jack-o’-lantern faces onto each cake pop. Use melted orange candy to stick candies onto the tops of the pops.
