Time-tested applesauce cake, a beloved family tradition that never fails to impress.
Ingredients:
  • cooking spray
  • 2.6666667461395 cups white sugar
  • 0.66666668653488 cup butter-flavored shortening
  • 1.75 cups applesauce
  • 0.66666668653488 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3.3333332538605 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1.5 teaspoons salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1.5 cups raisins
  • 0.66666668653488 cup chopped walnuts
Instructions:
  • Preheat your oven to a toasty 350 degrees F (175 degrees C, gas mark 4) while giving your cake pan a light spritz with cooking spray.
  • In a bowl, cream together sugar and shortening using an electric mixer until smooth and creamy. Add the eggs and beat until fully incorporated.
  • In a saucepan over medium heat, warm up the applesauce, water, and baking soda, stirring for about 2 minutes. Mix this warm applesauce blend into the shortening mixture, and then add the vanilla extract.
  • In a bowl, combine flour, cinnamon, salt, baking powder, and ground cloves. Gently mix in the applesauce mixture until just combined. Fold in raisins and walnuts, then transfer the batter to the cake pan.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for about 1 hour until golden and a toothpick inserted in the center of the cake comes out clean. Let cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer the cake to a plate.
