Crispy fried portobello mushroom strips, perfect for dipping.
Ingredients:
  • oil for frying
  • 2 cups bitter ale (such as Goose Island Honkers Ale®)
  • 1.75 cups all-purpose flour
  • 0.5 cup sesame seeds
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 3 large portobello mushroom caps, cut into 1/2-inch slices
Instructions:
  • Heat oil in a deep-fryer or large saucepan until it reaches 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
  • Combine ale, flour, sesame seeds, cornstarch, and baking powder in a large bowl until a thick, slightly lumpy batter forms.
  • Dip a handful of mushroom strips into the batter, ensuring to shake off any excess.
  • Sauté mushrooms in small batches in hot oil until they turn golden brown, which should take about 5 to 6 minutes.
