Homemade Middle Eastern gyros made under the oven's broiler. Quick, flavorful, and perfect for a weekday dinner. Marinate in advance and serve in pita pockets with salad and yogurt.
Ingredients:
3skinless, boneless chicken breast halves - cut into 1/2 inch strips
2tablespoons ketchup
2tablespoons olive oil
1.5 teaspoons white wine vinegar
1teaspoondried oregano
1teaspoonmustard powder
1.5 teaspoons curry powder, or to taste
4pita breads, cut in half
2cups mixed salad greens
1cupplain yogurt
Instructions:
Arrange chicken strips in a broiling pan. Combine ketchup, olive oil, white wine vinegar, oregano, mustard powder, and curry powder in a bowl. Pour over the chicken and marinate as you preheat the oven's broiler.
Place the meat 6 inches from the heat source and broil uncovered for 15 minutes until the chicken is fully cooked, ensuring it remains juicy and tender. Be cautious not to overcook to prevent it from becoming dry and tough.
Stuff warm chicken into fluffy pita pockets and drizzle with pan juices. Garnish with fresh salad greens and a dollop of creamy yogurt.
