Savory meat-filled rolls, perfect for meals or snacks. Reheat beautifully for delicious leftovers. Substitute sauerkraut for a tangy twist.
Ingredients:
  • 1.5 (.25 ounce) packages active dry yeast
  • 0.5 cup white sugar
  • 2 cups warm water
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 0.5 cup powdered milk
  • 1.5 teaspoons baking powder
  • 0.5 cup shortening
  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 1 pound ground Italian sausage
  • 1 cup chopped onion
  • 3 cups shredded cabbage
  • 3 tablespoons prepared mustard
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 2 teaspoons ground black pepper
  • 0.5 cup shredded, processed American cheese
  • 0.5 cup shredded Cheddar cheese
Instructions:
  • For Sweet Dough: Mix yeast, sugar, and water in a medium bowl and let sit for 10 minutes. Add flour, dry milk, baking powder, and shortening. Knead for 10 minutes, adding flour sparingly. Cover with a damp cloth and allow to rise in a warm spot for 30 minutes. Knead again before using.
  • In a large skillet over medium-high heat, brown the beef, sausage, and onion. Remove any excess fat from the skillet, then add the cabbage, mustard, salt, and pepper. Cook for 5 minutes before adding the cheese. Stir until the cheese is melted.
  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Flatten the dough and generously scoop the meat filling onto it. Fold over to create a round bun and place it folded-side-down in a greased 9x13 inch baking dish. Repeat with the rest of the dough and filling.
  • Place in a hot oven for 20 minutes or until beautifully golden brown.
