Irresistible chicken with mouthwatering aroma.
Ingredients:
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 cut-up whole chicken (3 to 3 1/2 pounds)
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 3/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 medium yellow onion, thinly sliced
  • 3 green onions, cut into 1-inch pieces
  • 1 1/2 cups Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour
  • 2/3 cup soy sauce
  • 7 cups hot water
  • 2 teaspoons onion powder
Instructions:
  • Warm up the oil in a large skillet over low heat for 5 minutes. Season the chicken with salt and 1/2 teaspoon of black pepper, then place it in the skillet. Top the chicken with yellow and green onions.
  • Sear chicken over medium heat for 10 minutes until golden. Reduce heat to low and continue cooking for 5 minutes. Transfer chicken to a large pot or Dutch oven.
  • Keep the skillet over low heat. Whisk together flour, 1/3 cup of soy sauce, and 4 cups of hot water until smooth in a medium bowl.
  • Cook the flour mixture in a hot skillet over medium heat, stirring constantly with a wire whisk or fork until it boils and thickens. Gradually stir in the remaining water, adding 1 cup at a time and stirring until smooth after each addition.
  • Add the remaining 1/3 cup of soy sauce, onion powder, and the rest of the black pepper. Pour the flavorful gravy over the chicken in a large pot. Simmer covered on low heat for 1 hour, remember to stir occasionally to prevent sticking.
