Indulgent loukoumades: fluffy dough balls fried to perfection, drenched in sweet honey syrup, and dusted with cinnamon.
Ingredients:
  • 2 (.25 ounce) packages active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 0.5 cup warm milk
  • 0.25 cup white sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3 eggs
  • 0.33333334326744 cup butter, softened
  • 0.5 cup honey
  • 0.5 cup water
  • 4 cups vegetable oil, or as needed
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
Instructions:
  • In a small bowl, gently sprinkle yeast over 1 cup of warm water. Allow the mixture to rest until the yeast softens and a creamy foam forms, approximately 5 minutes.
  • In a large bowl, blend warm milk, sugar, and salt until fully dissolved. Add the yeast mixture and mix until incorporated.
  • Mix flour, eggs, and butter until you have a smooth dough. Cover and let rise at room temperature until doubled in volume, around 30 minutes. Stir, cover again, and let rise for another 30 minutes.
  • In a small saucepan, combine honey and 1/2 cup water. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat, then let the honey syrup cool off the heat.
  • Heat a generous amount of oil in a deep fryer or large saucepan until it reaches 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  • Dip a large spoon in water and scoop about 2 tablespoons of dough. Drop it into your wet hand, then shape it into a round puff in the spoon. Avoid overhandling the soft dough.
  • Fry dough balls in batches in hot oil, ensuring to wet the spoon before shaping each. Cook until golden brown on one side, then flip and cook the other side for 2 to 3 minutes per batch. Drain loukoumades on a paper towel-lined plate.
  • Place the loukoumades on a baking sheet, then generously drizzle them with honey syrup and sprinkle with aromatic cinnamon. Serve these delectable treats warm for the perfect indulgence.
