Healthier low-salt bread with great taste.
Ingredients:
  • 6.5 cups bread flour
  • 2 tablespoons white sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 (.25 ounce) packages active dry yeast
  • 2.25 cups warm water (110 degrees F/45 degrees C)
Instructions:
  • In a large bowl, combine 3-1/2 cups of flour with sugar, salt, oil, and yeast. Add warm water and mix on low speed for 1 minute, scraping the bowl as needed. Increase speed to medium and beat for another minute. Gradually stir in the remaining flour, 1 cup at a time, until the dough is easy to handle.
  • Transfer the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place the dough in a greased bowl with the greased side up, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for 45 to 50 minutes or until doubled in size. You can also place the covered bowl on a rack in the oven above a pan of warm water if needed. The dough is ready when an indentation remains after being touched.
  • Prepare the loaf pans by greasing them. Punch down the dough and divide it in half. Shape each half into a loaf and place them in the prepared pans. Optionally, lightly brush the loaves with margarine. Cover and let them rise in a warm place for 35 to 40 minutes or until doubled in size.
  • Position oven rack low in the center of the oven. Preheat to 425°F (220°C). Bake for 25-30 minutes until the loaves are deep golden brown and sound hollow when tapped. Remove from pans and brush with margarine, if desired. Cool on wire rack.
