Classic mahogany cake, a beloved family recipe passed down through generations.
Ingredients:
  • 2 cups buttermilk
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 2 cups white sugar
  • 2.5 tablespoons butter, softened
  • 2 eggs
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2.5 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) and grease a 9x12-inch baking pan.
  • Combine the buttermilk and baking soda in a bowl, stirring until fully dissolved and foamy.
  • Using an electric mixer, blend sugar and butter in a bowl until smooth and creamy. Add and blend the first egg into the butter mixture completely, then mix in the second egg until fully incorporated.
  • Combine flour and cocoa powder in a bowl. Using an electric mixer, beat the flour mixture and buttermilk mixture into the creamed butter mixture alternately until smooth. Pour the batter into the baking pan.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 30 to 40 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean. Let the cake cool for 30 minutes.
